Our Ethos
The ethos of the Oxford Limb Reconstruction and Infection Clinic is to offer patient friendly surgery that aims to cure infection and restore function, through as few interventions as possible. We aim to undertake infection surgery in a single stage, so that patients can get back in the road to recovery as quickly as possible. We have been able to help people who have been afflicted with chronic infection for many years.
We take pride in helping to restore quality of life in those we have treated. Our team approach allows us to provide a complete suite of investigations that are required to accurately diagnose and define the extent of infection, even in complex and longstanding cases. This facilitates careful surgical planning to allow removal of infection whilst preserving optimal function of the limb.
Careful consideration is given to optimization of any associated medical issues preoperatively to improve outcomes. In addition, each patient is provided bespoke physiotherapy and nursing care to ensure optimal functional recovery and rapid discharge from hospital. Patients are thereafter closely followed up in the outpatient setting.

Referrals
If you are insured, your insurer will often require a referral letter from your GP/Consultant.
More information about referrals can be found here or complete our referral form.
We have many years of combined experience. Referrals have often been treated initially in other centres before coming to seek our specialist care. We can confidently accept patients with chronic osteomyelitis, fracture related infection, nonunion and malunion, as well as infection related to internal metal work or following multiple previous operations. Where necessary, extensive scarring and wounds can be managed at the same time as the underlying bone infection.
The Oxford Limb Reconstruction and Infection Clinic is the private part of a world leading centre of excellence for complex orthopaedic infection. We very much look forward to welcoming you for a discussion around treatment strategies most suited to your needs. For international or non-local patients, we can review imaging and arrange a telemedicine consultation prior to organizing a face-to-face visit in Oxford if this is requested.
Research Output
Our team has been involved in a substantial output of research on the management of bone infection. The unit has developed protocols for management of fracture related infection and osteomyelitis, investigated diagnostic techniques, studied the use of local antibiotics, and reported on strategies for managing bone defects.
Some of the work has informed international practice and helped develop international guidelines on bone infection management. It has helped drive the move to oral antibiotic treatment following bone infection.
